Mugging season

No updates for quite a long while. Have been mugging for the past week, so I didn’t want to waste time blogging. LOL. Anyway, I think my progress for the first round of revision is quite good.

English: 0% (which I don’t think is necessary anyway)
HCL: 0% (which I think there’s no point to do a first round of revision ’cause I will definitely forget all the 词语)
Maths: 0% (gonna start tomorrow~)
Physics: 100% (yay!)
Chemistry: 100% (yay!)
Biology: 65% (left with Respiration and Transport in Man…)
SS: 0% (arr… sianzzz)
Geography: 0% (more sianzzz. I think I hate Humanities)
Japanese: 80% (left with all the kanjis. EOY is this Fri. Will study on Thu ’cause no lessons for the whole day ^^)

Btw, the photo on the left was taken when I was in P6. Hahaha. Found it in my dad’s handphone on Fri. Comment from Keng Chee: ‘OMG! U LOOK COOL IN YOUR DP!’ ‘Cause that photo is my MSN display pic too. LOL.

If you think the same way as me, then vote for me! Click here to vote! Yes, vote, not nominate, ’cause I’m one of the ten and only ten nominees. If you vote for me, I will win great prizes in Habbo! Vote for Otokonohito!

And if I’m the top of the ten, I will stand a 4% chance of winning a pair of real-life tickets to Hollywood! That’s so cool!

Lightbulb

Just realised something. If I use the name ‘Oto’ to tag the blog of somebody who doesn’t know that my nick is Oto, asking him to link me, he won’t do it. But if I were to use my real name, i.e. ‘Jia Jin’, he would. I wonder why my frenz are so not curious to find out who is this ‘Oto’ by clicking the link. LOL.

Fire!

At 2+ am today, my mum suddenly woke me up and shouted “Got fire!”

Ya, there was a fire breakout 5 floors below my unit. My unit number is #16-91 while the fire scene was at #11-91. My flat is not of those old types whereby there are long corridors. It basically has a common rectangular area and there are 6 units linked from that common area, which makes it look like a flower, with 6 petals, if you were to have a bird’s eye view.

So I ran out with my family to the common area, without wearing my underwear. I felt so awkward. LOL. Anyway, I looked downwards, but I didn’t really see the fire. I just saw the outer walls of the burning unit glowing in orange. Judging from the glow, the fire was quite a big one. So, almost all my neighbours were out, walking around, looking here and there, and getting frantic and didn’t know what to do.

Then, my neighbours said that we should close our windows. So I quickly ran inside with my mother and helped to close the windows, and at the same time, I made use of the opportunity to put on my underwear. LOL.

It was quite funny that my neighbours from two out of the 6 units on my floor were still sleeping amidst this commotion. My neighbours and my parents were ringing the bell and banging the door, but they were still sleeping. What heavy sleepers are they.

Later, my neighbours said that the police a few floors down wanted us to evacuate, but we couldn’t use the lift. Ya, so we had to walk down 32 flights of stairs to get down from the 16th to the 1st floor. When we reached the 11th floor, the smoke was so thick that I thought I was so gonna die of suffocation. But the 10th floor was totally cool. The air was so crisp and fresh. LOL, it’s ’cause smoke travels upwards, not downwards. =.=.

When we finally reached the ground floor, there were a lot of people. They were all wearing sleepwear, like duh. But it was quite a rare sight. First, I’ve never seen so many people from my flat where I’ve lived for 10 to 11 years. Second, it’s quite interesting to see most of them wearing T-shirt and shorts, and some wearing pyjamas. LOL.

I heard from some aunties that they heard quarrels before the fire. Hmmm.

After about 30 minutes, we were allowed to return upstairs. My parents were so kanchiong as they quickly rushed to the lift, so my sister and I followed suit. Then, I realised we were the first few to return home. I bet the common area of the ground floor was very crowded as people took turns to enter the lift.

Btw, my mum told me later on that the 12th floor was also affected by the raging fire. Luckily, the owner of that unit has actually sold it away and was gonna move out today. Hahaha, the new owner is quite unlucky… hafta waste money to do some repairing.

Hmm, what a rare experience.

Thumbs-down

DMP is worse than expected. Every module was so dead today ’cause the class is just too small. Was stoning quite a lot ’cause the teachers were not quite interactive. I would rather have normal lessons…

日本

I’m quite glad that I borrowed this book called “Basic Japanese Vocabulary: An Explanation of Usage” by 寿子山口(Toshiko Yamaguchi) from the library on Wed. It was in my bag till Fri when I suddenly remembered I’ve borrowed it, LOL. It basically (no pun intended) compares the differences between similar Japanese terms like 飲酒する and 酒を飲む; 習慣 and 慣習; 独学 and 自習 etc, etc.

Because of that, I’ve finally realised the differences between 日本 and 日本. I mean, にほん(Nihon) and にっぽん(Nippon). You pronounce Nihon as Ni-hon and Nippon as Ni followed by a short pause then a Pon. Here’s the quote from the book:

If you have listened to the Japanese cheer their national football team, you may have heard the word にっぽん. This is used more frequently in spoken language. にっぽん has a small っ before ぽ. This small sound is created by doubling the consonant /p/. This process is called gemination. Japanese words such as 学校(がっこう)’school’ and 楽器(がっき)’musical instrument’ are created by gemination. When people cheer competing teams, they get excited emotionally and want to convey their heightened emotions (or patriotic feelings) through words. People prefer to use にっぽん rather than にほん to convey these strong feelings. When you meet new classmates during the first week of the academic year, you will normally introduce yourself. You might say a sentence like 私はにほんから来ました. It would be odd to say にっぽん because there is no need to emphasise the fact that you are ‘from Japan’.

Cool, right?

Nicely packed day

Today was quite a tight day for me.

Woke up at 7.10. Reached school at 7.55 for Chemistry Makeup/Revision/Remedial. Chemistry teacher Mr Vetuz was 15 minutes late. He was waiting at the Chemistry Lab for us, but he told us last week that the venue would be 3A. =.=. Wasted our time.

Went through CCT2 and other Assignments. Got 27/33 for CCT2. Very happy, ’cause I got 18/33 for CCT1. 9-mark improvement wor! Chemistry department is quite weird, ’cause they like the number 33. I mean, you seldom see a total mark having 3 in its ones place right? Most of the time you see either 0 or 5.

We (ya, Yee Siang and I) were gonna have an outing at 9.30 for Aroma Chem DMP. And yet, he’s sooooo late and still, he was dilly-dallying throughout the whole session. I know why, ’cause he’s gonna have the lesson till 12 (ya, 4 hours total), so he has no reason to rush through his lesson. Anyway, we were 5 min late for the outing. Heng, the bus didn’t leave without us. =.=.

This DMP session should have been 3 hours. But we spent half an hour on transportations, and actually we only had 1 hour of proper learning. =.=. It ended at around 11 instead of 12.30. =.=. Cheat our $! I forgot to say, we went to Singapore Polytechnic, and there’s a Mcdonald’s there! Big Mac meal only costs $4.40! $1+ cheaper than outside! VVVVVV cool! I bought Big Mac Upsized Meal at $4.90! Wootz! LOL. Then Yee Siang became lame and said that the McSpicy was the best one he has ever tried and claimed that he had a sense of contentment after eating it. =.=.

After that, we went to Esplanade with Tony. Ya, Tony is also in the DMP. Quite fun to go Esplanade lah, ’cause it has been quite long since I last went. The underground passageway was what I was looking forward to lah. The one from City Hall to MRT if you don’t know what I’m talking about due to the fact that you are a rich brat who seldom takes MRT, or who don’t have to take MRT to Esplanade.

Oh, we went there to buy cello and bass mutes. I was quite shocked to find out that they are sold in a shop called Frank Brothers which I have actually passed by quite a few times long long time ago. There was this $40 000 double bass! Scary! Didn’t quite dare to touch it, but still touched it at the end ’cause we were trying out the mutes. Also, there was this vvvv light score stand which costs $75. Nice nice. Tony wasted quite a lot of time in the shop. (Like some auntie who probes and scrutinises.)

After that, Yee Siang and I took MRT back to Bishan while Tony went home. When we reached Bishan, it was raining crazy cats and dodo dogs! Yee Siang wanted to take bus but I asked him not to, ’cause it was already 2.25 pm! We have to reach by 2.30! In case you’re wondering, there were actually 2 Chem sessions. One from 8 to 12, the other from 1 to 5. Since we attended the first 1.5 hours of the first lesson, we should attend the remaining 2.5 hours of the second lesson which should start somewhere around 2.30.

Yee Siang didn’t bring his umbrella, so I had to share mine with him. =.=. My umbrella was just big enough for me, but not quite spacious if shared with someone else. So while walking on the flooded pavement, we were bickering like women ’cause of the rain which was wetting us. We were quite stupid, we could have walked through the shopping centre and flats to reach the crossroad junction. But we chose to walk along the road. =.=.

When we reached the crossroad junction, we couldn’t click the button ’cause the whole area was heavily flooded! If we were to walk in, our pants would get wet. So we were like stoning. Luckily, our classmate happened to appear at the flats who was going to school too. (Ya, he was smarter. He picked the easy route.) Very lucky! He helped us to click the button. Hahahahaha.

After we crossed the first part of the road (it’s a crossroad junction mah), we were nearly drenched by all the speeding cars. They were splashing water at us. But was quite funny. Hahahaha. In the end, we reached the classroom at the very correct moment. Mr Vetuz was about to finish what he did with us before 9.30. Ya, so we didn’t miss anything! I mean, coincidences happened twice today. First, the appearance of our classmate! Second, the very exact moment to reach the class! Hahahahaha.

What a day. Thanks for reading my diary. If you really read through it, you are my Diary, ’cause normally people who keep a diary always start off with “Dear Diary…” for their every entry. LOL.

Incomprehensible Mandarin

I came across an interesting article from Lianhe Zaobao, 31 August. It was on Page 25, if you wanna know. Anyway, you can read the article below or click here.

If you are not too lousy in Chinese, it should be quite obvious to you that they used either a lousy online translator or a lousy human translator.

If you were to translate the Mandarin version to English, you should get the correct English meaning which should be something like:

“Dear residents,
As part of our school’s CIP Programme to raise funds for MDAS (Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore), we seek your help in our collection of old newspapers and clothes. The collection will happen on Thursday, 30 August, between 2 to 5 pm.

In order to facilitate our collection, we will appreciate if you could leave your old newspapers and clothes at your door on that day. Please do not use the yellow plastic bags provided by the town councils. The simple? ordinary? common? plastic bags will be enough. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!”

End of Term 3!

Glad.

I got past the challenging term! I really don’t know how I managed to. So, to reward myself, I went to watch RIGE’s concert ‘RAGE XII: Vivace!” just now.

It was generally pleasing to the ears, and I like most of the pieces. However, I don’t know why they made it so informal ’cause they were laming around in some of the pieces.

In one of the pieces, someone, named as The Phantom, walked in with a mask on his face and a rose in his mouth. He sat down and pulled up his long pants to knee level, when he was wearing concert attire. He also had with him, coke. =.= Then the other performer was less lame but he had with him, milo. They were laming around on the stage, and untuned their guitars, for fun, then tuned it back. It was quite funny, but it’s lame. LOL.

Then, there was this Rock Band item. In order to have this item, they borrowed RICO’s Drum Set. But… they were taking turns to sit on the drum. Ya, sit on the drum which has its drum skin facing outwards. Then, they were laming around again. The Phantom was wearing shorts and showing his thighs, on purpose. The whole of his thighs was quite exposed as he was like squatting down and doing all sorts of weird actions. Moreover, the whole Rock Band item was so noisy and it dragged on for quite long.

If the Rock Band item was removed, the whole concert would be quite a good one to me lah, ’cause they played nice Chinese songs 城里的月光, 童话 and 菊花台.

What a silly mistake

Sad. Maths CCT today.

I was supposed to find the length of the shadow of this tree. Yes, I found it. It’s 28.7m.

But I put wrong units. I didn’t put m. Guess what I wrote instead?

You guess cm? Nah!
You think it’s mm? No. =.=
You believe I wrote km? Nope, I ain’t a noob.
picometre, nanometre, micrometre? Nah, nah, nah. =.=

I drew a nice little circle!!! 28.7°! Wow! The shadow of the tree is 28.7°! I ain’t a noob man! I’m a pro! Hahahahahahahaazzz~ -.-

o.O

Went out with mum today. Had some interesting encounters.

Mum was buying some ladies’ undergarments. I was waiting outside for her (like duh). There was a CD shop nearby and some Chinese song was played. There was also a black cat somewhere near me. It was lying down, motionless except for its tail. I was tapping my foot with the tempo of the Chinese song and I realised that the cat’s tail was doing the same thing as me. The tail was going up and down, at the same rhythm as my foot. Wah, got music talent sia!

So, I was tapping my foot while waiting for my mum outside the shop. Then, a man stood beside me and faced towards the shop, looking. Weird, my mum was the only customer, so there’s nothing wrong with me standing outside and looking towards the shop. But why was the man doing the same thing as me? Was he waiting for the shopowner? Or was he admiring the bras? Hmmmmm…

So, I got impatient… I looked around, then I saw an advertisement. A picture of Katsudon with miso and 2 pieces of orange, a $2.90 set meal. Cheap, but that wasn’t the focus. I looked at the name of the shop and was thinking about it. It was 相撲の家, or, Sumo House. Nothing wrong, ’cause Sumo indicates to you how one will become as fat as a Sumo after eating at Sumo House. However, if you don’t know English, the Chinese characters would make you wonder, ’cause 相撲 only means Sumo Wrestling, while ‘Sumo’ could mean the action (i.e. Sumo Wrestling) or the participant of Sumo Wrestling. What has Sumo Wrestling gotta do with a Japanese eating house?

After that, I saw a haircut shop. The name of the shop is 剪の店. Oh please, there is no such Kanji as 剪. The Japanese of ‘cut’ is 切る. So it should be 切の店? Haha, I wonder what would people think if you really put that as your shop name, ’cause 切 means slicing in Chinese, like in ’slicing meat’… Sianz, nowadays, I keep seeing Chinese brand names or shop names using の as ’s or 的. It’s totally wrong lorrr… For example, I saw this 優良の品. For goodness sake, since 優良 is an adjective, the linking character should be な instead of の.

At NTUC, I saw some oranges. It’s labelled as 新鮮やさい. It means fresh vegetables. Nothing wrong? Nah. Since 新鮮 is an adjective, な should be there to link, so it should be 新鮮なやさい instead! By the way, the kanji of やさい is 野菜 which means vegetables in Japanese, but it means wild vegetables in Chinese. No wonder, やさい is used instead… if not people would think the vegetables are wild. =.=

CSS2 is a failure!

Updated with some Youtube videos. Scroll down.

Disclaimer: This post contains highly biased comments. Please read at your own discretion.

Was damn pissed off last night when it was announced that Shawn is the male champion. Was even more pissed off when the overall champion was announced. It’s Shawn again. =.=

Shawn was so lousy last night. He forgot the lyrics during the first part of the show. He was also criticised by the judges about his rhythm. Although I’m usually bad at rhythms, I could also tell that he screwed up. Thus at the end he got 34.5/50 while Benjamin, his opponent, got 40/50. Shawn got a 3.2 while Benjamin got a 4.0. However, I don’t know why there are so many dumb audience who kept on voting for Shawn which enabled him to beat Benjamin and became the male champion. This is so unfair lor. Why did the audiences’ votes take up 70%?

However, I was quite glad that Keely is the female champion. She got a 37.5 while Zhengning got a 35. As for the other 70%, Keely was also leading. Therefore, it’s quite convincing for her to be crowned the female champion… unlike that Shawn.

When only Shawn and Keely were left on the stage, Shawn continued to sing lousily… He was supposed to sing a duet with CSS1’s female champion Teresa. The song was 今天你要嫁给我, meaning “Wanna marry me today?”. Like OMG, if you did watch that particular performance last night, you will be Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off, a.k.a ROFLMAO. It seemed like 姐弟恋 (Romance between an older woman and a younger man), due to the height disparity. Teresa was so much taller than Shawn. Not only so, Shawn was criticised badly by the judges…

Aiya, Keely sang her love song with CSS1 Male champion Zhiyang much better than that Shawn but… Shawn still got the overall champion title. Sianz. Sadded.

Compare Keely’s with Shawn’s…

Silly yet Interesting

In the 4.5 hours when I was away at RJC for CO practice, I met quite a number of…

愚かで面白い人 (愚か means silly while 面白い means interesting.)

  1. Someone covered a displacement of 1.2km but a distance of 1.8km to return home instead of taking bus.
  2. Someone thought that the new song is easy because he plays the double bass (as double bass’ parts are always simpler compared to the other instruments’), but somehow got suaned by his senior at the end ’cause the simpler it is the harder it is to play it well.
  3. Someone owes someone else 20 cents but he paid a 25% interest (i.e. 5 cents).
  4. Someone forgot that Parent-Teacher’s Meeting was this morning and hence his parents did not attend.
  5. Someone, whom you should never do a prank on, got slammed by the door because of a prank played by someone else.
  6. The prankster got beaten up in the end.
  7. Sometwo got shocked by two ‘clinks’ made by a van which passed by, thinking that they were gonna get hit.

Are you pregnant?

Today was relatively quite an easy day. Hmmmm…

My dearest CLE teacher Mrs Jacq Chua talked about teen pregnancy today. I relearned that condoms are useful to a certain extent; there will still be a 2-3% chance that ‘one tiny little sucker’ (quoted from Mrs Chua) will find its way through. However, if we use two condoms, there would be extra protection nah, the two condoms will cause friction and wear each other out.

I also reunderstood that you can get a 8-year-old girl pregnant if her menstruation period has arrived. That’s so damn cool! If a girl has a child at age 8 then her child also does the same thing, and if it continues… “I am K1, my mum is Sec 1, my grandmum has just finished university, my great-grandmum is reaching her thirties and my great-great-grandmum is as old as your mother…”

After CLE, we took 4 photos with Brendan (2 with Mrs Chua and 2 with the teacher-in-charge of the exchange programme cum Philosophy teacher Mr Au), the exchange student from Australia who has stayed with us for 4 to 5 weeks. Brendan is gonna leave on Sunday. Awww, so sad, although I didn’t talk to him at all.

So during Philo, it was dialogue session and it was a slack period for me ’cause I’ve done mine last week. We wrote farewell notes for Brendan on a RI PE T-shirt. Yee Siang and I managed to write “Bye” and “Thanks” in 8 languages on the shirt, thanks to my handy-dandy electronic dictionary.

My electronic dictionary is very cool! It has Jap-Chi and Chi-Jap dictionaries, plus a Eng-Chi-Jap-Kor, Chi-Eng-Jap-Kor, Jap-Eng-Chi-Kor and Kor-Eng-Chi-Jap dictionaries. Besides that, you can draw stuff in ‘Paintbrush’, learn 10 different languages in ‘Travel Dialogue’ etc etc.

PE was even slackier. ‘Cause it was raining, we got to have some workouts at the Gym. I ran 3 laps of 0.4 km at 10kmph on the running machine…

I got back my Chinese Ying Yong Wen test. I got 17/20. Only a few of us got it back ’cause Cai Laoshi wants us to type out and send the soft copy to her. Lol. But sian, I could have gotten 18 instead if not for my silly mistake. I wrote 素问 instead of 素闻. Just that 1 character has cost me 5% of my marks!

Wootz!

Can you imagine how good a news can be?

I just got the bestest news ever. Our English teacher gave us our debate topics on Monday. The teams who got Topic 1 and 3 have to do their debates on Thursday… which means there are only 3 days for them to prepare. I’m part of the unlucky 16…

So I stayed till 12 am on yesterday… and planned to stay till round the same time today. But good news from Chong Yu. LOL. Mrs Nathan won’t be coming to school tomorrow as she is sick. I was like OMG and I invited the opposition team to our MSN convo and broke the bestest news to them.

Wah, I’m so glad!!! There’s free period tomorrow. But oh well, I would rather the debate be done this week so I don’t have to worry about it for so long…

How time flies

Time really flies.

A Long Phone Convo Which Did Not Seem Long (at least to me)
I was talking to Tony on phone for quite a while just now. At the end, I was stunned to find out that we talked for half an hour. That should be the first time ever that I talk on the phone for so long.

A Long 30-seconds Wait That Supposedly Is Not Long (at all)
I take bus to school every morning. To reach the bus stop that is across the road, I have to bypass a T-junction. Basically, I have to cross a road, with traffic lights, on the same side of the road in order to be able to get to the other side of the road. That means I have to wait for the green man twice.

So this morning, I was waiting for the first green man, and 30 metres away is my bus which is stuck at a traffic light crossing that is before the bus stop. (The T-junction is after the bus stop, according to my orientation…) Then, both the bus and me started to move at the same time as the traffic light where the bus was turned to green light (or otherwise, red man) and the one where I was turned to green man (or otherwise, red light).

After I crossed, I was clicking the button like mad as the bus was already at the stop and a lot of people were boarding. The second green man has to appear before everyone has boarded the bus, except me! At the end, the green man appeared after everyone has boarded and the bus has left the bus lane… It was just about 30 seconds total!
