JC Orientation – Days 3 & 4!

February 5, 2009

80% of Orientation is now over~

On Wednesday (that’s Day 3), we continued with the Batch Dance! I love the dance, although it looks complicated. Check it out:

Cool, isn’t it?

The main activity we had on Wednesday was actually Inter-House Competition (IHC) War Games! It was fun, but it was quite violent… I got injured~

Since there are 5 houses, each with 12 Orientation Groups (OGs), there are 60 groups in total. The groups were split up into three big groups, each with 4 OGs from each house (total: 20 groups from 5 houses).

In each big group, each house competed with the opponent houses to win tokens in three different mini war games. Yup, so the three big groups just did rotation after playing each game, so everyone played all the three games.

The first game involved us to be in guy-girl pair; with hands held together, each pair had to remove chopsticks from their house bases and run to other house bases to plant the chopsticks. The objective was to have as few chopsticks as possible at our own house base. There were, of course, defenders guarding own house bases, which brought about violence!

With a total of about 400 people in a field, there was bound to be violence and injuries! And so, I fell down once, with my head twisted slightly by the guy who knocked me down. Luckily, it wasn’t a sprain, LOL. I just had to twist my neck and there were ‘crack crack’ sounds, LOLLL. And, ’cause we thought it’d be easier to get through the defenders by charging in large numbers, we did so and my specs got hit and dropped. Phew, it didn’t get stepped on ’cause I immediately bent down to retrieve it.

The second game was less violent. Each house had its own territory, with a base at the very end of the territory. There were four lines of defence, formed by 17 defenders holding newspaper sticks to whack attackers.. The attackers are supposed to go through the four lines of defence at opponent houses’ territories. I managed to succeed thrice. xD LOL.

The third game was the most violent! It was called “Strip me if you can!”. The girls were supposed to pair up, and the guys were supposed to have 4 pegs clipped onto the back of the shirt. The girls had to chase after the guys from the opponent houses to strip their pegs off in order to score points. Ya, then all the guys had to escape from the evil girl pairs.

Once, there were like four or five pairs chasing after me, and I was panting so hard after sprinting like crazy that I just collapsed to the floor and I gave up. Wow, the girls are so enthu. =.= But the good things were that there were small areas marked out for guys to enter to take a rest for 1 min, and that by standing in between a girl pair from the same house the guys would be free from the evil clutches of the opponent houses’ girls. LOL. It was quite fun, but the girls were quite violent. I ended up with a 5cm long scratch on my right arm. =.=

Oh, the 3 other Moor Tarbet (my house) OGs together with our OG got a second place for each of the three mini-games! Woohoo! xD I wonder how the other 8 Moor Tarbet OGs did in their respective big groups~ So us 4 Moor Tarbet OGs got 12 tokens total (every 2nd place earned us 4 tokens). Cool!

The tokens were used for the grand finale! We were supposed to raise up our house flag using a lever by putting weights on the opposite side of the lever. Each OG was supposed to form a circle, with each member facing outwards and wrists tied up together. Then, we were supposed to move about in that big circle to look for plastic bags filled with newspapers. We then went to throw those bags into the box tied on the lever; but at the start, we failed to throw into the box so the bags were gone to waste.

Another thing, the tokens I mentioned just now could be used to exchange for newspapers. We also could complete some random tasks to get a triangle token (to exchange for newspapers too, but with an exchange rate that kept changing) or some bags with newspapers.

Eventually, it rained, so the game had to stop. So I wonder who won~

Thursday. In the morning, when we reached the hall, our OG leader taught us a game called Slap Jack using poker cards. In a circle, the first person puts down a card and says 1, and the second person does the same thing and says the next number (which is 2) and so on. If the card corresponds to the number that was said (for example, I said 2 and the card is really 2), everyone has to put his/her hand on the card immediately. The last to do so has gotta take the whole pile. In the end, I realised there are three scratch marks on my wrist, 0.5cm, 1cm and 2cm long respectively. TSK. I wonder whose nails were so sharp…

We continued to learn the batch dance, and also got to learn some RI(JC) cheers. Some are the same as RI(S)’s while some are new ones. We also learnt the college anthem, which has the same lyrics but different accompanying music… It was kinda dry.

But the last hour or so was used to do a batch project or something. Each OG got a tile, which we had to use anything to paint based on the given picture and paint. That was fun, as we used our fingers to paint. We also wrote our OG name “Oxoxo you know you love me” on it after we were done. XD

~~~
Tomorrow, there will be Raffles Take 5 in the morning at Pasir Ris Park! It’s an event in commemoration of Total Defence Day, and in celebration of Chinese New Year, Friendship Week and Valentine’s Day, LOLLL. There will also be the finals of the college’s Talentime. XD
There will be Frisbee, Captain’s Ball, Soccer and Amazing Race competitions, which we had to sign up in advance if we were interested. I didn’t sign up, but we’ll be allowed to loan some sports equipment like frisbee disc on the day itself. xD There will also be cool stuff like Dunking Booth, Inflatables (like Bouncing Castle), etc etc… I’m looking forward to a whole lot of fun!
At night (or evening), we will be having our Orientation Nite! The whole OG has to come up with our very own OG costume. We have decided already, and I think it’ll be very special and “glamourous”. LOL.
O’xoxo you know you love me: I love you! xD
    O hai (no pun intended!) It looks like you’re having lotsa fun for your orientation… 5 days some more. My college’s orientation spanned a measly 3 days back in 2007.
    Anyway… enjoy your orientation man, very soon some of the bonds you’ve forged will melt down to cattyness, selfishness and good ‘ol fashioned le politiks. Eeee~~~
    My boy as you grow up you will realise it occurs everywhere, not just in school. It’s part and parcel of life.
    Oh I understand. But actually, Orientation Group members aren’t my classmates…
