Disappointment + Delight
May 15, 2008
Went to watch Chinese Language Challenge 《华文智多星》 semi-finals yesterday. The recording (the show is not live, btw) was supposed to start at 7pm. We reached Mediacorp at around 6.40pm. This was my second time at Mediacorp, and we went by the same way to the theatre studio. Strangely, same as last time, we had to wait at the carpark outside the studio.
I thought we just had to wait for a while before entering. However, we waited and waited… and finally we entered the studio at 8 pm. 1 hour plus of waiting… zzz. Their (in)efficiency is quite disappointing. I sat behind the judges! And phew, the camera shot the judges diagonally, so I wasn’t filmed. Heng.
Then, we wasted another 1 hour plus just to let them film us clapping and cheering. Zzz. Finally at about 9.15pm, the show officially started. The first round required the teams to point out the wrong word(s) out of the 8 given, while the second round required the first teams to ring the buzzer to pronounce the words given. After those first two rounds, RI was quite pro and got 68 points, getting 2nd after Nanyang Girls’ who got 70 points. Only the top 3 schools entered the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds. The schools are RI, Nanyang Girls and… National JC! Quite surprisingly, HCI did not fare quite well so bye bye to them for now. What a delight. LOL.
The third round required teams to come up with two 1-min stories (there are 2 rounds of it, that’s why two stores) which involve the use of the words given. RI was quite creative and the stories they gave were very interesting. RI was in the lead after third round. The fourth round was the problematic one! I was quite confused with the rules of the game and it was very messy! We wasted a lot a lot of time! Tsk… the producers did not do quite a good job… The last round consisted of 10-, 20- and 30-mark questions. The 10-mark question involved explaining of common idioms/proverb, 20-mark involved explaining of a character in an idiom/proverb, and 30-mark description of the origin of the given idiom/proverb.
RI was very pro in this round too. But Nanyang Girls failed to answer their 30-mark question. RI and NJC had the chance to ring the buzzer to answer it. RI got the question and got 20 marks. OMG. Before that, RI had 89 and NJC had 84 marks. Then, NJC raised an objection. They claimed that RI rang the buzzer before the host said ’start’. Zzzzzz. The crew did not care, and asked the host to continue. =.=
Anyway, I think NJC should have pointed that out before RI said the answer, so that they can like fight for the question again. What’s the point of pointing it out after RI has gotten the 20 points? Also, I don’t know if their claim is true or not. The crew should have watched a replay of the particular scene to give a fair verdict to the problem. But… they just ignored. What a disappointment! Heck-care attitude sia!
Oh, at the end of the whole thing, RI won! Yay! Won, meaning got into the finals. That was the first semi-final. There will be 4 semi-finals total, and the top school of each semi-final will get a position in the finals. So, at the end, there will be 4 finalists, and RI is the first one. Gigglez. I’m so delighted!
But zzz, the whole thing ended at 11.15pm lor. Reached home at about 11.40pm. Slept at about 12.15am. If they did not start 1 hour late, I could have slept at 11.15pm instead. They are so inefficient.

Argh. Got back Chemistry CCT today. 29/35. About 82%. Not too bad, but I wanted to get at least 30 actually. T_T Sadddddddddddd. Getting back Bio CCT tomorrow. May get back Physics CCT tomorrow too. Somehow, I got more confidence in getting high marks for Physics. Bio was tough. Sure die one. Sigh.
